Kathua: Military operation against militants started in Kathua after militants attacked army party in Badnota village of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday afternoon, officials said.

An official told news agency Kashmir News Observer that militants attacked army vehicles in Badnota village, about 120 km from district headquarters, today afternoon.

He said that the army repulsed the attack with retaliatory firing, triggering the operation.  “Operation is on and further details are awaited,” the official added.

Officials told Global News Service that during the exchange of fire, two army personnel were injured in the operation.

They received bullet wounds and were subsequently shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, where their condition is said to be stable.

Jammu has been high on the militant radar with these attacks being reported from areas known to be free of militants, the report said.

On June 9, nine people were killed and 33 injured after a bus on its way to the Shiv Khori cave temple came under attack in Reasi district.

On June 12, armed forces killed two infiltrating militants in the Hiranagar area of Kathua, while three militants were gunned down on June 26 in Doda district.
