Srinagar: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday called for accountability following the deaths of armed forces personnel in militant attacks and operations in Jammu and Kashmir, stating “heads should have rolled by now.”

Her comments followed the death of four army personnel, including an officer, who were injured during an operation against heavily armed militants in Doda district on Monday.

“There is no accountability. Heads should have rolled by now … the DGP (R R Swain) should have been sacked by now,” Mehbooba was quoted by PTI as saying.

“The attack in Doda is highly condemnable. We lost our brave soldiers and officers, and there is no accountability,” she said.

She alleged that the incumbent DGP is more focused on political maneuvers, including targeting the PDP and harassing people.

“Almost 50 armed forces personnel have lost their lives in the past 32 months. Nobody is being held accountable,” she said.

Criticising the DGP, she added, “We don’t need a ‘fixer’ here. We need a DGP. We have had DGPs from outside earlier who did a very good job.”
