Nirmala Sitharaman to present record 7th consecutive budget for 2024-25
New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her seventh consecutive budget on Tuesday for 2024-25, surpassing former Prime Minister Morarji Desai’s record. This will be the first budget of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi’s third term.
The budget aims to address global offshoring, digitalisation, and energy transition, said a report by news agency PTI. However, job creation, income inequality, and rural distress remain concerns.
Sitharaman, appointed as India’s first full-time woman finance minister in 2019, has presented six budgets, including an interim one in February this year. This upcoming budget will be her seventh consecutive one, surpassing Desai’s record of five full budgets and one interim budget between 1959 and 1964. Desai still holds the overall record with 10 budgets.
