Heavy rains in Uttarakhand kill 12, cause widespread damage
Dehradun: Heavy overnight rains in Uttarakhand resulted in twelve deaths and six injuries۔
The rains caused house collapses, flooding, and rising river levels. Affected areas include Haridwar (six deaths), Tehri (three deaths), Dehradun (two deaths), and Chamoli (one death). Two individuals are missing in Haldwani and Chamoli.
In Dehradun, two people were swept away by an overflowing canal and later found dead.
A seven-year-old boy in Haldwani is missing after being swept away by a stream. In Haridwar, a house collapse killed four people, and two others were electrocuted at a bus stand.
In Tehri, a landslide killed three family members. Several vehicles were washed away in Haridwar. Rescue operations are ongoing, with 450 Kedarnath-bound pilgrims stranded. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is overseeing the response, including inspecting the worst-hit areas.
Roads were submerged in Haridwar, and schools and Anganwadi centers are closed.
