NC demands clarity on Kashmir Press Club elections

Srinagar: A day after it was announced that the executive body of Press Club of Kashmir has issued a statement stating that journalist fraternity will soon have a press club in Srinagar, the National Conference (NC) has voiced concerns, questioning the transparency of the process.

The NC, highlighting the essential role of press freedom in a democracy, has called on the current administration to clarify when the interim election notification for the Press Club was issued, where it was published, which journalists participated, the date of the elections, and the location where they were held.

The party has urged the ruling administration to provide prompt and transparent answers, stressing the importance of maintaining integrity in matters that directly affect the journalistic community.

On August 13, a spokesperson in a statement said that the JK administration has agreed to provide every possible help in establishing the club as soon as possible.

The statement reads that today prominent journalists nominated the executive body, including M Saleem Pandit of Times of India as interim president, Zulfikar Majid of Deccan Herald as general secretary and Farzana Mumtaz of News Kashmir as treasurer.

It reads that the executive members later held a meeting with the administration, regarding their help and assistance in establishing the press club.

The administration assured the executive body of every possible help to establish of the Club in Srinagar in the shortest possible period.
