55-year-old doctor Javed Akhtar shot dead at point blank range in Delhi hospital
New Delhi: A 55-year-old Dr Javed Akhtar was shot dead at Nima Hospital in Delhi’s Jaitpur area late Wednesday night, officials said.
According to reports, around 1:45am, two people entered his office and fired at him at point-blank range.
Earlier that day, the two suspects had visited the hospital for wound dressing and later returned, requesting to see Dr Akhtar for a prescription, reports said.
Once inside his office, they shot him. Hospital staff, alerted by the gunshots, rushed to the scene and found the doctor lying in a pool of blood. The suspects are believed to be teenagers, around 16-17 years old. The police officials are reviewing CCTV footage to gather more information.
Dr Akhtar was a practitioner of Unani medicine.
