Assembly polls result: Omar to be next chief minister of JK, says Farooq Abdullah
Srinagar: National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah announced on Tuesday that his son, Omar Abdullah, will be the next chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, as the NC-Congress alliance is set to form the government.
The announcement came after poll trends showed the National Conference emerging as the largest party in the 90-member assembly, excluding five nominated MLAs.
So far, NC has won 8 seats and is leading in 33 others, while its ally Congress has secured 2 seats and is leading in 4. The CPI(M) is ahead in 1 seat, indicating that the alliance is on track to form the government without difficulty.
Farooq Abdullah stated that the election results reflect a clear rejection of the Centre’s August 5, 2019 decision. He added that the NC will prioritise addressing unemployment and combating drug abuse in the region.
