Iran wows retaliation after Israel claims killing of senior Hezbollah leader in Beirut
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned on Tuesday that any attack on the country’s infrastructure will be met with retaliation. This statement comes after the Israeli military announced a strike in Beirut that killed senior Hezbollah commander Suhail Husseini, international media reported.
The strike occurred shortly after the global community marked the one-year anniversary of the October 7 attack when Israel began bombarding Gaza after Hamas forces retaliated to decades-long occupational crims committed by Israel, prompting widespread mourning and demonstrations in various countries. Israel has increased military operations, including a limited ground incursion into southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah has stated it will continue to target Israeli positions with rockets, missiles, and drones until a cease-fire is achieved in the Gaza Strip, where Israel continues its strikes and killing of Palestinains, more than 41,000 so far.
The ongoing conflict and Israeli attacks on both Lebanon and Gaza raise concerns about further escalation in the region.
