Srinagar: PDP leader Waheed Para demanded the abolition of the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, arguing that it could undermine the long-term quality and competence of institutions.

In a post on X, Para pointed out that only 40 percent of candidates selected in the J&K PSC 2023 results were chosen based on “open merit,” even though over 70 percent of the state’s population falls within the unreserved category. He made these remarks regarding the candidates called for the Jammu and Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination 2023.

According to the list, among the 71 candidates selected for the medical exam, 42 are from reserved categories.

“The government must eliminate this unjust policy that undermines merit and ensure that reservations accurately reflect the true proportions of the population,” said Para, who represents Pulwama as an MLA.

“JK’s youth deserve inclusion, not exclusion. This issue extends beyond jobs; it also threatens the long-term quality and competence of all institutions,” added the president of the party’s youth wing.
