Clarification regarding news item published in Free Press Kashmir

With regard to the news published in Free Press Kashmir about an event held by DLSA Kupwara, we seek to clarify certain things.

That the news reached us through a news group and we decided to publish it as it was a positive event.

That we have done extensive coverage on the issue pertaining to the event in the past as well. After receiving the news, we decided to publish it with a positive intention and no malice.

That our news was shared by some social media handles with their own negative comments, over which we have no control.

However, keeping in mind the cultural sensitivities and the fact that our news was circulated without context and negative comments, we wish to take certain steps. We will make suggested corrections in the existing news item.

We will attempt to approach the religious body which also highlighted this news and seek to clarify to them that no religious sensitivities were hurt in the event which was only focused on the rights and entitlements of the third gender as per the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.
