Srinagar: Kashmir continues to shiver under freezing temperatures as the mercury plunged further across the region.

Anantnag and Shopian recorded the coldest temperatures at -8.9°C, while Sonamarg followed closely at -7.7°C. Other parts of the valley, including Srinagar, Qazigund, and Gulmarg, also witnessed severe cold, with minimum temperatures settling well below freezing.

In the Jammu region, the chill was less intense but still significant. Jammu recorded 4.9°C, while Banihal dropped to -3.4°C. Padder reported one of the lowest temperatures in the region at -8.3°C.

Ladakh remained in the grip of extreme cold, with Kargil freezing at -12.5°C and Leh at -8.8°C. Zojila recorded the lowest temperature in the region at a staggering -23.0°C.

The biting cold is expected to persist as winter tightens its grip on the northern Himalayan belt.
