Over honeymoon trip to Kashmir, man throws acid on son-in-law
Mumbai: A 29-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Thane district sustained injuries after his father-in-law allegedly attacked him with acid following a disagreement about the couple’s honeymoon destination, an official reported on Thursday.
The victim, Ibad Atik Falke, is receiving treatment in a hospital, while the accused, 65-year-old Jaki Gulam Murtaza Khotal, is currently on the run, according to senior inspector SR Gaud of the Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan.
As per the FIR, Falke, who recently married Khotal’s daughter, wished to travel to Kashmir for his honeymoon, while Khotal insisted on a religious destination abroad. The disagreement escalated into a dispute.
On Wednesday night, as Falke returned home and parked his vehicle, Khotal, who had been waiting nearby in his car, approached him and allegedly threw acid, injuring Falke’s face and body, police said.
The official stated that Khotal sought to end his daughter’s marriage with Falke. He is absconding, and efforts are underway to locate him.
Khotal has been charged under sections 124-1 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt using acid), 351-3 (criminal intimidation), and other provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
