Fresh snowfall in south Kashmir; traffic shut on Mughal Road
Srinagar: South Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall on Friday, leading to the suspension of traffic on Mughal Road. A western disturbance is expected to bring light snowfall to higher reaches and light rain to the Jammu plains, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The region is experiencing intense cold, with minimum temperatures remaining below freezing. Srinagar recorded minus 7.3°C on Thursday night, while Pahalgam hit minus 8°C. Konibal, in Pampore, was the coldest at minus 9.5°C.
Dry weather is predicted from Dec 29-31, with isolated snowfall likely between Jan 1-5. This coincides with ‘Chillai-Kalan,’ Kashmir’s harshest winter period, lasting until Jan 30.
