Man builds replica of Kaaba in north Kashmir; now arrested and the structure removed after officials took swift action.

Srinagar: A self-styled peer in Kashmir built a replica of the Kaaba and claimed that those unable to afford travel to Mecca could perform Umrah at his site. The incident, which took place in Waripora Kunzar Tangmarg, Baramulla, has sparked outrage, with locals condemning it as an extreme act of ignorance.

The man, reportedly mentally unfit and residing outside the village community, was found openly making false religious claims and likening himself to revered Kashmiri saint Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA). Following public outcry, the structure was demolished and the man was arrested.

Officials confirmed that necessary action has been taken against the person. Religious scholars and community leaders have urged people to remain vigilant against such misleading acts and ensure that faith is not exploited for personal gains.

Meanwhile, the House of Grand Mufti of JK&L, on its X, posted: “Urgent Appeal: A fake peer falsely claiming to be Sheikh Noor ud Din (RA) has been misleading people and has even constructed a replica of the Kaaba. This matter requires immediate action to prevent further deception. Requesting the budgam police to intervene and dismantle the structure.”
