Five dead, several injured as tempo falls into gorge in Doda; ministers condole
Doda: Five person lost their lives after a tempo they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Ponda, Doda district, on Tuesday.
Initially three deaths were reported but two more have succumbed now, taking the toll to five, and more than a dozen are injured. As per officials, the toll may climb further as a few are still critical.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Doda, Harvinder Singh, IAS, told GNS that three people were killed and more than a dozen were injured.
He further said that he has directed the hospital authorities to ensure all necessary facilities for proper treatment of the injured persons.
Soon a team of police and locals launched rescue operation and shifted injured persons to neaby hospital. Meanwhile, police have taken cognisance of the incident.
GoI minister Jitendra Singh said that all possible help and medical aid being provided.
“Just now spoke to DC Doda, Sh Harvinder Singh on receiving the information about a private tempo road accident in the vicinity of Bhart village, about 20 to 25 km from Doda city. 3 casualties reported so far, 4 others critically injured. All possible help and medical aid being provided,” he said.
The minister added that DC is personally supervising the entire exercise and giving me regular updates. Any further assistance, as required, will also be provided. My sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.
For JK CM and former GoI minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Bhart, Doda that claimed 5 lives and left 12 injured. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. Urge the administration to provide immediate relief and medical assistance.”
