WhatsApp to introduce ‘Quick Recap’ feature for chat summaries
Meta is developing several new AI features for WhatsApp, including one called Quick Recap. This tool will give users short summaries of unread messages, making it easier to catch up on conversations.
The feature is still being worked on and was spotted in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (version 2.25.21.12), according to WABetaInfo.
Although it’s not available to beta users yet, Quick Recap is designed to help users manage long or multiple chat threads more easily. It builds on an existing message summary feature, currently available in the US, that gives a brief overview of unread messages in a single chat.
The new feature is expected to be more advanced. It will let users select up to five chats at once and receive an AI-generated summary of key messages from each, saving time and effort—especially after being away from WhatsApp for a while.
How to use Quick Recap
To use it, users will go to the Chats tab, select multiple conversations, tap the three-dot menu in the corner, and choose “Quick Recap.” WhatsApp’s AI will then summarise unread messages from those chats.
Privacy and Safety
Meta says the feature uses its “Private Processing” technology to protect user privacy. It relies on end-to-end encryption and secure systems to make sure neither Meta nor WhatsApp can read messages or summaries. All data processing happens in a secure environment, keeping conversations safe.
Optional Feature
Quick Recap will be completely optional. Users must turn it on manually in Settings, and it won’t affect chats protected under WhatsApp’s Advanced Chat Privacy settings.
Release Timeline
Right now, Quick Recap is only available as a preview in the Android beta channel. It will likely be rolled out to more testers soon before becoming available to all Android users.
