Joint director geology & mining appointed as inquiry officer; action follows MLA’s complaint

Kulgam: The government has initiated an inquiry into allegations against the District Mineral Officer (DMO) Pulwama, who is also acting as the DMO for Kulgam.

According to an order from the Department of Mining, Nisar Ahmad, Joint Director of Geology & Mining, Kashmir, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer.

“The inquiry officer is required to submit the report along with recommendations to the government within 15 days.”

This action follows a formal complaint by CPI(M) leader and Kulgam MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami concerning illegal mining, which appears connected to FIR 21/2021 filed earlier.

Tarigami’s complaint, referenced through DO MYT/MLA(K)/331-2 dated May 29, 2025, prompted the inquiry, although the exact details of the allegations remain undisclosed in the order.
