In viral video, army officer attacks SpiceJet staff at Srinagar airport; one suffers spinal fracture, another jaw injury
Srinagar: A senior Army officer allegedly assaulted four SpiceJet employees at Srinagar International Airport during a confrontation over excess cabin baggage, leaving one staff member with a spinal fracture and another with serious jaw injuries, the airline said.
A purported video of the incident, which surfaced on social media on Sunday, shows the officer violently attacking the airline staff with what appears to be a metal signboard picked up from the ground. A CISF official is seen intervening and attempting to restrain the officer, who continues to punch and kick the staff members despite efforts to de-escalate the situation.
The incident took place during the boarding process for SpiceJet flight SG-386 bound for Delhi on July 26. According to the airline, the officer refused to pay for excess cabin baggage and became aggressive when confronted by the staff.
In a statement, SpiceJet condemned the attack, describing it as a “brutal assault” on its employees. “One of our staff was knocked unconscious, while others suffered severe injuries including a spinal fracture and jaw trauma. An FIR has been registered, and we are initiating a no-fly ban against the individual involved,” the statement read.
The airline also confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated and assured full support to the injured employees. “We are committed to ensuring the safety and dignity of our staff. Such acts of violence will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” it added.
Authorities are currently investigating the case. The identity of the officer has not been officially disclosed, and no formal response has yet been issued by the Army or CISF regarding the incident.
