Massive cloud burst in Kishtwar, casualties feared, rescue Op underway
Kishtwar: A massive cloudburst struck the Chashoti area in Padder, Kishtwar district, on Thursday, triggering a flash flood along the route of the Shree Machail Mata Yatra. The incident washed away a community kitchen shed and raised fears of possible casualties.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Pankaj Sharma, said rescue operations had been launched and a team with medical support was on its way to the site. “We have also requested an NDRF team from the Centre to assist in the operation,” he added.
GoI Minister and local MP Dr Jitendra Singh said he spoke to the DC after receiving an urgent message from Leader of Opposition and local MLA Sunil Kumar Sharma. “The administration has swung into action, rescue teams are on the job, and all possible help will be provided,” he posted on X.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the incident, offering condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. He directed civil, police, army, NDRF, and SDRF teams to strengthen rescue and relief efforts.
Officials said more details will be shared once the situation becomes clearer.
