Tawi, Basanter rivers cross flood alert levels in Jammu
Jammu: Continuous heavy rainfall has pushed river levels in parts of the Jammu region to alarming levels, prompting authorities to issue fresh flood advisories on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials said the water level of the Tawi river in Udhampur has crossed the flood alert mark of 15 feet, touching 18.31 feet by 2pm. The danger level is 20 feet, they added, warning that further rise could pose a serious risk to low-lying areas.
In the Samba district, the Basanter river has also reached the alert level of 4 feet around 2:27pm. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, as incessant downpour continues across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The administration has urged people living near riverbanks and vulnerable zones to remain cautious and avoid venturing close to water bodies until the situation stabilises.
