Two militants trying to cross LoC in Kupwara killed, say officials

Kupwara: Two militants were killed in an anti-infiltration operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machil sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Monday.

According to officials, troops detected suspicious movement along the LoC and challenged the duo. The militants opened fire, prompting retaliatory fire from the armed forces.

“In the ensuing exchange of fire, two militants were killed,” an official said, adding that their identities are being ascertained.

The operation was underway when reports last came in.

The armed forces remain on round-the-clock alert along the Line of Control to prevent infiltration attempts in Jammu and Kashmir before heavy snowfall closes the mountain passes this winter.
