Kulgam: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice president Sartaj Madni on Thursday said the party will chart its strategy for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir only after observing the National Conference’s stance on private member bills in the Assembly.

Speaking to reporters, Madni said, “We will wait to see what the NC does with the bills and only then make any move.” On the recent J&K Waqf Board resolution being dropped, he added, “We don’t expect much from this government because it is their government, their Assembly, and their Speaker.”

Regarding the bypolls in Budgam, Madni said a year has passed since the current government’s formation, and now it is up to the people to decide what is best for them. “As far as the government is concerned, one year has passed. The people should decide what is good for them,” he added.

With less than 24 hours remaining before the Rajya Sabha voting, both the PDP and the Congress are keeping their strategies under wraps.

Sources told KNO that while the Congress is awaiting directions from its high command, the PDP is observing the Congress and the NC’s moves before finalising its stance.

The voting, scheduled for October 24, is expected to see the National Conference comfortably secure three seats, while a tight contest is anticipated for the fourth seat between NC’s Imran Dar and BJP’s Sat Pal Sharma. On this seat, the BJP holds 28 votes against the NC’s 24, sources said.
