Body of 45-year-old man retrieved from Jhelum six days after jumping into river from Zaina Kadal

Srinagar: The body of a 45-year-old man, who had allegedly jumped into the River Jhelum at Zaina Kadal nearly a week ago, was retrieved on Sunday, officials said.

According to officials, a joint team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Quick Response Team Jhelum, River Police, and local police recovered the body during an extensive search operation this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Mohd Rafeeq Ahangar, son of Mohd Jamal Ahangar, a resident of Dalal Mohalla, Zaina Kadal, Srinagar.

Officials said Rafeeq had reportedly jumped into the river on October 20, prompting a massive rescue operation that continued for several days before his body was finally recovered today.

Meanwhile, the police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated necessary legal proceedings. (GNS)
