Jammu: Armed forces on Monday foiled a drug smuggling attempt along the International Border (IB) in the RS Pura sector of Jammu, seizing over five kilograms of heroin worth more than Rs25 crore that had been airdropped by a Pakistani drone, reports said.

The recovery was made near the Border Outpost Jatinder in the RS Pura sector during a joint search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police, according to a PTI report. The operation began around 6 am after a Pakistani drone was detected crossing into Indian territory.

“During a search near village Bidipur on the morning of October 27, alert BSF personnel recovered two yellow packets containing 10 smaller packets of suspected contraband, weighing approximately 5.3 kg,” a BSF spokesperson said.

The suspected heroin was found in farmland near Bidipur, believed to have been dropped by a drone from across the border, the spokesperson added. A detailed search of the area is underway.

Officials said the seizure thwarted a major cross-border smuggling attempt, and a case has been registered by the police.
