Stage set to malign all Kashmiris for terror act by few, says Omar Abdullah

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that recent terror incidents carried out by a small group have unfairly led to the entire Kashmiri community being viewed with suspicion.

This profiling, he said, is pushing Kashmiris into social isolation and making them hesitant to interact with people outside the region, NDTV reported.

Several suspects in the “white-collar” terror module — including doctors involved in the Red Fort suicide blast — were from Jammu and Kashmir.

Abdullah criticised the perception that all Kashmiris are responsible for the actions of a few. He added that despite the Centre’s claim in 2019 that terrorism would end after the region was split into two Union Territories, attacks continue both in Delhi and in the Valley.

He stressed that Kashmir has already witnessed enough bloodshed and that families are now reluctant to send their children outside the region due to widespread suspicion.

He further pointed out that even driving a Jammu & Kashmir–registered car in Delhi invites scrutiny: “I hesitate to take my own car out. I don’t know who might stop me, ask where I’m from, or why I’m there.”

Omar Abdullah’s father, Farooq Abdullah, stirred controversy earlier by asking why the doctors involved in the terror module “chose this path.” He called for a deeper investigation into the root causes that pushed them towards radicalisation.

Authorities have expanded the probe into the white-collar terror network, examining the financial and administrative operations of Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad, where the accused had been working under the guise of medical professionals.
