Dharmendra passed away at 89 at his Mumbai residence.

 

Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra died at his Mumbai residence on November 24 at the age of 89, news agency IANS reported.

He passed away nearly two weeks after being discharged from Breach Candy Hospital, where he had been admitted in late October following complaints of breathlessness. He would have turned 90 on December 8.

Dharmendra, who entered films in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere, first rose to prominence portraying everyday characters in movies such as Anpadh, Bandini, Anupama and Aaya Sawan Jhoom Ke. He later became one of Hindi cinema’s most popular leading men with roles in classics including Sholay, Dharam Veer, Chupke Chupke, Mera Gaon Mera Desh and Dream Girl.

He most recently appeared in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. His next film, Ikkis, featuring Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, is scheduled for release on December 25.
