Ganderbal court sentences Bihar man to life imprisonment in POCSO case after JK police’s strong prosecution

Ganderbal: JK Police in Ganderbal has secured Life imprisonment for an accused involved in a grave offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to a statement, the accused, Varinder Thakur, son of Yadav Lal Thakur, resident of Sariswa, Bihar, has been awarded Life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 by the Hon’ble Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Ganderbal, under Section 06 of the POCSO Act. In addition to the above conviction, the accused has also been sentenced as under: Section 342 IPC: 01 year imprisonment with a fine of ₹1,000 & Section 506 IPC: 02 years imprisonment with a fine of ₹2,000.

Shafat Ahmad Bhat (PP) had prosecuted the case, and Jehangir Rafiqi (PP) argued the case on behalf of the prosecution. The case was investigated by PSI Rayees Ahmad, whose diligent and professional investigation played a crucial role in bringing the accused to justice, the statement said.

J&K Police reiterates its commitment to safeguarding vulnerable sections of society and ensuring that perpetrators of such offences are brought to face the full force of law.
