‘You belong to a filthy caste’: English teacher hurls casteist slurs at Dalit students, parents protest at school
Kakinada: Parents and students in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district have accused an English teacher at Yandapalli High School of making casteist remarks toward Dalit students, sparking a protest outside the school in U Kottapalli Mandal.
According to NDTV, families said the teacher, identified as Srinubabu, repeatedly singled out Dalit children and insulted them.
Parents alleged the teacher told students, “You belong to a filthy caste… Do you think SCs are some kind of special people?” They claimed he routinely used degrading language and targeted the same group of students again and again.
The families first approached headmaster Suresh Bhushan, but said he failed to act. Students expressed disappointment that the school administration ignored their complaints. With no response from authorities, parents and students staged a protest, accusing the school of enabling harassment and showing “institutional indifference.”
The incident has also drawn political attention. The YSR Congress, led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, criticised the ruling government, asking, “Are you bringing caste even into school premises in your government?” The party has demanded action against the teacher over the allegations.
