Sonamarg coldest at minus 10.1°C as severe cold grips Kashmir

Kashmir reeled under intense cold on Wednesday as several places across the Valley recorded subzero minimum temperatures, with Sonamarg emerging as the coldest at minus 10.1 degrees Celsius, according to data compiled by Kashmir Weather.

Tourist resorts of Gulmarg and Pahalgam also witnessed biting cold, recording minimum temperatures of minus 7.6 degrees Celsius and minus 7.2 degrees Celsius, respectively. Srinagar city recorded a low of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, while the temperature at Srinagar Airport dipped further to minus 2.2 degrees Celsius.

Other parts of the Valley, including Kupwara, Baramulla, Budgam and Kokernag, continued to shiver as minimum temperatures ranged between minus 2 degrees Celsius and minus 4 degrees Celsius. Pulwama and Shopian recorded lows of minus 5.1 degrees Celsius and minus 4.3 degrees Celsius, respectively. Pampore and Kulgam were relatively warmer, each recording a minimum of 1 degree Celsius.

In the Jammu region, temperatures remained largely above the freezing point, with Jammu city recording 8.7 degrees Celsius and the airport 9.3 degrees Celsius. However, Bhaderwah experienced cold conditions, settling at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Leh in Ladakh recorded a freezing minimum of minus 13.4 degrees Celsius, underscoring the harsh winter conditions prevailing in the region.
