Military operation against militants starts in Kishtwar, say officials
Kishtwar: A military operation against militants has started in the Singpura area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district on Sunday, officials said.
The exchange of fire began during an ongoing search operation launched following inputs about the presence of militants in the area, officials said.
The operation is being conducted jointly by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Armed forces had intensified searches in the forested and hilly terrain of Chatroo over the past few days as part of a multi-day cordon-and-search operation, they said.
Firing started when the forces zeroed in on suspected hideouts, prompting the militants to open fire, officials added.
