Kashmir freezes as temperatures drop to minus 6.1°C in Sonamarg, minus 5.8°C in Pulwama

Srinagar: Cold conditions continued across Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, with most parts of the Kashmir Valley recording sub-zero minimum temperatures, while Ladakh witnessed severe cold with temperatures plunging below minus 10 degrees Celsius.

In the Kashmir region, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 3.4°C, while Pulwama and Anantnag were among the coldest places at minus 5.8°C and minus 5.3°C, respectively. Sonamarg recorded the lowest temperature in the Valley at minus 6.1°C. Tourist resort Gulmarg settled at minus 4.0°C, while Pahalgam recorded minus 4.4°C.

Other places recorded minimum temperatures including Qazigund (-3.8°C), Kupwara (-3.7°C), Awantipora (-5.2°C), Shopian (-5.4°C) and Srinagar Airport (-3.8°C). Baramulla and Aloosa Bandipora were relatively warmer at minus 0.4°C.

In the Jammu region, temperatures remained above freezing in most areas, with Jammu city recording a minimum of 7.2°C, Katra 6.6°C and Kathua 5.8°C. However, higher reaches, including Banihal (-2.2°C) and Bhaderwah (-1.5°C) experienced sub-zero temperatures.

Ladakh continued to reel under intense cold, with Leh recording a low of minus 10.6°C, followed by Hanle (-11.0°C)and Kargil (-8.4°C), according to data compiled by Kashmir Weather.
