No survivors in Pune plane crash that killed Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, 4 others: DGCA

Pune: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Wednesday confirmed that there were no survivors in the Baramati area of Pune plane crash that claimed the lives of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others.

The private chartered Learjet 45 (VT-SSK), operated by VSR Ventures, was flying from Mumbai to Baramati when it crash-landed while approaching the local airport around 8:45 am and burst into flames, officials said.

All five people on board — including Pawar, two crew members and two staff — were killed in the accident.

DGCA has dispatched a team of investigators to ascertain the cause of the crash, which eyewitnesses said was followed by explosions and thick smoke from the wreckage.

Pawar was travelling to attend election-related engagements in his hometown ahead of the Zilla Parishad polls. Leaders across the political spectrum expressed condolences over his death.
