Woman booked over objectionable social media content, another arrested in Anantnag: Police

Anantnag: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said an FIR has been registered in Anantnag district over “objectionable and provocative” social media content, and one person has been arrested for allegedly attempting to incite unrest.

Police in a statement said the case (FIR No. 14/2026) was registered at Police Station Mattan under relevant legal provisions.

The case pertains to objectionable content circulated on social media that had triggered public concern. It has been registered against a woman for allegedly posting derogatory remarks. The matter is under active investigation.

In the statement, the district police said action has been initiated against several social media users accused of trying to disturb public tranquillity, and one accused has been arrested in this connection.

Authorities urged the public to maintain restraint and avoid sharing unverified or provocative material. They warned that circulating such content could lead to legal action.

“The situation is being closely monitored. Any attempt to disturb peace and public order will be dealt with strictly as per law,” the police statement said. (KNS)
