Former minister Qamar Ali Akhoon passes away; JK assembly pays tribute
Jammu: Senior Qamar Ali Akhoon, a veteran leader of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference and former minister, passed away on Friday. The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly observed a two-minute silence to honour the late former legislator.
Akhoon, who had served as Food Minister in the erstwhile state and was a prominent political figure from Kargil in the Ladakh, died amid an outpouring of grief across political circles in Jammu and Kashmir.
The House was informed of his demise by NC spokesperson and MLA Tanveer Sadiq, following which members expressed deep sorrow and paid tributes to his contributions to public life.
Hailing from Sangra, Akhoon was widely seen as an experienced politician who represented Kargil and the wider Ladakh region with distinction throughout his career.
The Assembly observed solemn moments in his memory and conveyed condolences to his bereaved family.
