725 kg of unlabelled honey seized in Srinagar
Srinagar: Acting on specific intelligence, the Food Safety Enforcement wing of the Drug and Food Control Organisation today carried out a targeted inspection in Abanshah area of HMT in Srinagar and seized approximately 725 kilograms of honey found stored without any statutory labelling.
Officials reported a complete absence of mandatory labelling, including product name, net quantity, date of packing or manufacturing, best before or expiry date, name and address of manufacturer or packer, FSSAI license number, and storage instructions where applicable.
The entire stock was seized on the spot. Samples were collected for analytical purposes.
The department issued a strict warning to food business operators stating that unlabelled food products are illegal and pose serious health risks. Violators face action under relevant provisions of law.
Consumers have been advised to report any suspicious or unlabelled food items immediately by calling 104, the Food Safety Helpline. Packaged food must carry complete details of the manufacturer, date of packing, and use by date.
Officials stated that the seizure reflects DFCO’s zero-tolerance policy toward unsafe and non-compliant food circulating in Kashmir’s markets. (KNS)
