Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued an advisory outlining steps citizens can take if someone threatens to share their private photos or videos online.

In a public awareness message, police said victims of such threats can create a digital hash of the image or video. A digital hash functions as a unique digital fingerprint of a file.

The hash can be shared with social media platforms, enabling them to detect and block matching content if someone attempts to upload it.

Police urged citizens not to panic and to immediately approach the nearest cyber crime unit in case of online blackmail or threats. They also advised people to preserve evidence and report incidents through official channels to prevent further misuse of private content.
