Cloudy skies, rain and snowfall likely across JK till March 11: MeT
Higher reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Anantnag and Kishtwar may receive moderate snowfall; farmers advised to suspend farm operations.
Srinagar: The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast generally cloudy weather with spells of rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days.
According to the forecast, March 9 is expected to remain generally cloudy with light rain in plains and light snowfall in higher reaches at scattered places.
From March 10 to 11, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain and snowfall at many places. Higher reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Anantnag and Kishtwar may receive moderate snowfall during this period.
The MeT department said weather conditions are expected to remain generally dry from March 12 to 15, though occasional cloudiness and brief spells of light rain or snowfall at isolated places cannot be ruled out.
From March 16 to 18, the region is likely to witness generally cloudy skies with light rain or snowfall in higher reaches at isolated to scattered places.
The department has also issued an advisory warning of possible temporary traffic disruptions over higher reaches and important mountain passes of Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Anantnag and Kishtwar due to weather conditions.
Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations between March 10 and 12. The MeT office said day temperatures may drop by 4–6 degrees Celsius from March 9 onwards at many places till March 12.
There is also a possibility of thunder and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph at a few places between March 9 and 11.
