Too early to draw conclusions on security lapse: Nasir Aslam on Jammu firing incident
Jammu: Nasir Aslam Wani, adviser to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Wednesday said it was too early to draw conclusions about possible security lapses after a gunshot incident at a wedding function in Jammu where Farooq Abdullah was targeted.
Speaking to reporters, Wani said the accused had fired a shot in the direction of Abdullah, but the senior leader escaped unhurt. He described it as a “great favour” of God that both Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, who was present at the event, were safe.
“He tried to fire his revolver at Dr Farooq Abdullah, but Allah saved him. It was a great favour. The deputy chief minister was also present,” Wani said.
When asked about a possible security lapse at the private function, Wani said the matter was under investigation, and it would be premature to comment on the arrangements.
“It is too early to say what the arrangements were or were not. The matter is being investigated, and the truth will come out,” he added.
Wani said the accused had been arrested, and an investigation into the incident had begun. He also said Farooq Abdullah was unharmed and in good spirits after the incident.
“Everything was spared. Dr Farooq Abdullah is fine and resting,” he said.
