Handwara court sentences man to 20 years in minor kidnapping and sexual assault case

Handwara: The police in Handwara have secured a conviction in kidnapping and sexual assault case registered (FIR 69/2021) at Police Station Kralgund.

The Principal District & Sessions Court, Kupwara, has sentenced the accused, Irshad Ahmad Mir, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000 under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act.

Additionally, the accused has been awarded 3 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹10,000 under Section 363 IPC. Both sentences shall run concurrently.

The case pertains to the kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor girl in the year 2021. The conviction stands as a testament to the dedicated investigation, professional approach, and relentless efforts of Handwara Police in ensuring justice for victims, especially in cases involving crimes against children.
