Donald Trump has said any potential US military action against Iran could conclude within “two to three weeks,” signalling a limited but decisive approach amid escalating tensions in West Asia.

He said Washington would “leave whether we have a deal or not” once it is satisfied that Tehran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons has been curbed for years, indicating that dismantling Iran’s nuclear capability remains the central objective.

Amid the intensifying conflict, President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran possesses the “necessary will” to end the war, but stressed that any cessation of hostilities would depend on firm guarantees from its adversaries to prevent a recurrence.

Diplomatic efforts are also gaining traction, with China and Pakistan proposing a five-point plan aimed at de-escalation. The proposal includes an immediate ceasefire, renewed dialogue and the reopening of the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route. Beijing’s involvement signals growing concern over the conflict’s impact on international trade and energy security.

Meanwhile, hostilities between Israel and Iran show no signs of easing. The conflict has expanded beyond direct confrontation, with Iran accused of targeting Gulf nations.

A drone strike triggered a fire at Kuwait’s international airport, while a tanker was hit off the coast of Qatar. Authorities in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have also reported attacks.

The war has already taken a heavy human toll, with thousands reported killed, the majority in Iran and Lebanon, raising fears of a broader regional escalation if diplomatic efforts fail.
