76-year-old man lived with daughter’s decomposed body for five months

Meerut: A 76-year-old man was found living with his daughter’s decomposed body inside his house for nearly five months in the Teli Mohalla area under Sadar Bazaar police station in Meerut, police said in a statement.

The matter came to light on Friday evening when relatives visited the house and were forced to step back due to a strong odour. On entering, they discovered the skeletal remains of the woman in a room. The body had decomposed almost entirely, with only parts of the feet still intact.

The deceased has been identified as Priyanka Biswas, a private computer teacher. Her father, Uday Bhanu Biswas, originally from Bengal, had been living in the house. He had reportedly been telling people that both he and his daughter were in Dehradun.

Police said several empty perfume bottles were recovered from the house, which the accused allegedly used to mask the smell.

Relatives grew suspicious after losing contact with the family since December 2025. On April 10, they traced Uday Bhanu to a tea stall in Begumbagh, brought him home, and questioned him. He then confessed that his daughter had died months earlier and that her body was still inside the house.

Police officials are also looking into the family’s past. In 2023, Priyanka’s mother died by suicide in the same house, after which both father and daughter reportedly became increasingly isolated.

Police have taken Uday Bhanu into custody and sent the remains for examination. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained, with initial findings pointing to extreme isolation and emotional dependence as possible factors.
