Udhampur bus tragedy: Prez Murmu, Modi, Rahul Gandhi, CM Omar, LG Sinha express grief; relief announced
Jammu: Top political leaders on Monday expressed grief over the deadly bus accident in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, which left at least 21 people dead and 61 injured.
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, expressed grief over the loss of lives and conveyed condolences to the affected families, wishing a swift recovery to the injured.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi termed the incident “extremely heartbreaking” and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
“The news of the deaths of several people and injuries to many others due to the accident of a passenger bus on the Udhampur-Ramnagar route is extremely heartbreaking. In this hour of grief, my condolences are with all the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and announced ex-gratia relief for the victims. He said Rs 2 lakh would be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased, while Rs 50,000 would be given to the injured.
“Pained to hear about the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the Prime Minister said.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced additional relief, stating that Rs2 lakh would be given to the families of the deceased, Rs1 lakh to those seriously injured, and Rs25,000 to those with minor injuries.
Manoj Sinha said, “Tragic road accident in Udhampur is heartbreaking. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. May God grant them strength. Praying for speedy recovery of injured. I have directed district admin, Police, SDRF & Health Dept to provide every possible assistance to those affected.”
The accident occurred on the Ramnagar–Udhampur route, triggering rescue and relief operations. Authorities said the injured are undergoing treatment at various medical facilities.
