Cyber police files FIR against Iltija Mufti for sharing Geelani’s video
Authorities have registered an FIR at the Cyber Police Station in Srinagar against PDP leader Iltija Mufti and others for circulating content that could incite public disaffection, disrupt public order, and undermine national integration, an official said.
Police sources quoted in multiple reports said that the case was initiated after a video posted on X by Iltija Mufti, featuring late Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, came to the attention of authorities.
According to the official, a preliminary review suggests the material constitutes cognizable offences under Sections 152, 196(1), and 353(1)(b), (c), and (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case has been registered as FIR No. 11/2026, and an investigation is currently underway.
Issuing an advisory, officials urged the public to avoid creating, sharing, or disseminating such unlawful content on social media and other digital platforms. They warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the law.
