Iran-Israel war: Ship catches fire after projectile strike off Qatar coast, says British military
A bulk carrier caught fire after being struck by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Qatar on Sunday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre said.
The UKMTO said the impact caused a small fire that was later extinguished. No casualties were reported.
The incident came amid heightened tensions in the Gulf as Iran and the United States continued negotiations over a possible agreement to end weeks of conflict.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Qatar’s leadership on Saturday, with the State Department highlighting Doha’s role as a key intermediary between Washington and Tehran.
Iran said it was still reviewing a US proposal related to the ongoing talks and would respond “at the appropriate time,” according to Al Jazeera.
The reported attack also followed a sharp escalation in regional violence. Israeli strikes across Lebanon on Saturday killed at least nine people, according to Lebanese authorities.
The Strait of Hormuz and surrounding Gulf waters remain under close watch as diplomatic efforts continue to seek a broader ceasefire and restore maritime security.
