Eight arrested, minor detained in alleged gang rape of 20-year-old tribal woman in Jharkhand
Ranchi: Police on Sunday arrested eight people and detained a 15-year-old boy in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old tribal woman in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district.
The incident was reported from a village under the Mandar police station limits on Friday night, officials said.
According to the police statement, the woman was allegedly taken to an isolated location near the village, where the assault took place.
An FIR was registered on Saturday based on the survivor’s complaint, following which she underwent a medical examination at a government hospital in Ranchi.
Ranchi (Rural) Superintendent of Police Gaurav Goswami said the accused were apprehended during raids conducted at multiple locations in the Burmu and Chanho police station areas. The arrested individuals are between 19 and 24 years old, while the detained juvenile is 15.
Police said the accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation into the case is underway.
