Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday to discuss regional security developments and ways to strengthen military cooperation.

According to a statement issued by the military’s media affairs wing, Haykal, who also serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces, held talks with Munir on “matters of mutual interest, evolving regional security environment, defence cooperation and prospects for enhancing bilateral military relations”.

“The discussions focused on strengthening professional interactions, training cooperation and institutional linkages between the armed forces of the two countries,” the statement said.

Munir reiterated the importance Pakistan places on its ties with Lebanon and emphasised the army’s commitment to expanding defence collaboration with the Lebanese Armed Forces, it added.

The statement said the visit reflects the shared commitment of both countries’ armed forces to deepening military-to-military cooperation and strengthening bilateral defence relations.
