Woman dies of electrocution as heavy rain batters Srinagar, causes widespread waterlogging
Srinagar: Heavy rainfall continued to lash parts of central Kashmir, causing severe waterlogging across several areas of Srinagar and disrupting normal life.
Amid the adverse weather conditions, a tragic incident was reported from Naid Kadal, where a woman lost her life after suffering an electric shock during the period of intense rainfall.
The incident has raised concerns over electrical safety during extreme weather events, as waterlogged streets and exposed electrical infrastructure can pose serious risks to residents.
Several parts of Downtown Srinagar witnessed extensive flooding following the downpour. Areas including Khanyar and Saraf Kadal were among the worst affected, with roads submerged and traffic movement severely disrupted.
Visuals from the affected localities showed an auto-rickshaw and multiple cars partially submerged in floodwater, while water entered several residential houses, causing inconvenience and damage to property.
Rescue and relief operations were launched in waterlogged areas, with personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and local volunteers working together to assist stranded residents and manage the situation.
At Saraf Kadal, volunteers joined police teams in relief efforts as massive traffic congestion developed due to inundated roads.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution during the ongoing wet weather, avoid contact with electrical installations in flooded areas, and follow safety advisories issued by the administration.
Further details regarding the electrocution incident and the overall impact of the rainfall are awaited.
