After two-year wait, NIT Srinagar gets new director

New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has appointed Professor Anurag Misra of the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Jammu as the new Director of the National Institute of Technology Srinagar, ending a vacancy of more than two years in the institute’s top post.

According to an order issued by the Department of Higher Education on July 29, the appointment was made by the President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of the NITs.

Prof Misra will hold office for a term of five years from the date he assumes charge or until he attains the age of 70, whichever is earlier.

The Ministry has directed the Director of IIT Jammu to relieve Prof Misra at the earliest to enable him to take charge at NIT Srinagar. It has also instructed Director-in-Charge Prof Binod Kanaujia to hand over charge to the newly appointed Director.

Prof Misra previously served as Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Dean of Infrastructure Planning and Management at IIT Jammu. He earned his PhD in Concrete Repairs from Queen’s University Belfast, UK, and has over 30 years of experience in academia, research and the infrastructure sector.

During his career, he has also served as Chief Executive Officer in the infrastructure industry, Professor and Head of the Structural Engineering Department at MNIT Jaipur, besides undertaking visiting academic assignments in the United Kingdom.

His research interests include sustainable construction materials, low-carbon cement, non-destructive testing of concrete and concrete durability.
