Hyderabad Police book Meta India head, others over posts on Modi

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have registered a case against Meta India head Arun Srinivas and several Instagram and Facebook users over allegedly doctored posts targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Cockroach Janta Party-led protest against the alleged NEET paper leak.

The cases were filed on July 29 following complaints by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters, including T Saikiran Goud, a core member of the Telangana BJP’s social media team. In his complaint, Goud cited 20 social media links and sought action against Meta for allegedly allowing such content to be hosted on its platforms.

Police registered the cases under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act, naming the owners of certain social media accounts along with Srinivas as a co-accused.

According to police, a notice has been issued to Meta regarding the registered cases and the objectionable links flagged by the complainants. Investigators said efforts are underway to identify the accused and take further legal action.

Officials, however, noted that all the social media links mentioned in the complaint had become inactive.
