Srinagar-Jammu highway closed for all vehicles; restoration work in progress

Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for all types of traffic on Friday as restoration work continued between Udhampur and Banihal, officials said.

A Traffic Police official said that restoration work is underway on the stretch between Jakheni in Udhampur district and Gangroo in Banihal, Ramban district.

The closure follows an advisory issued by the district administrations of Udhampur and Ramban to facilitate road widening and the removal of loose debris by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Authorities have advised commuters to avoid travelling on the highway until it is declared safe for traffic.

People have also been urged to rely only on official sources, including the Traffic Police’s social media handles and Traffic Control Units (TCUs), for updates on the road status.

Officials said further information will be issued after the restoration work is completed.
